ContentGlimepiride 2 mg

IndicationNIDDM (type 2 DM) inadequately controlled by diet, physical exercise & wt reduction alone.

Contra IndicationHypersensitivity to glimepiride, sulphonylurea, sulfonamide. IDDM or type 1 DM, diabetic ketoacidosis, precoma or coma diabeticum. Impaired liver & kidney function. Pregnancy & lactation.

DosageInitially, 1 mg once daily. If needed, doses are titrated gradually as follows: 1 mg-2 mg-3 mg-4 mg-6 mg, & in isolated cases, 8 mg, at 1-2 wk interval. For controlled diabetes Usual dose range: 1-4 mg daily.

AttentionTake immediately before the 1st main meal of the day. Do not skip meals.

Special PrecautionRoutine blood glucose level exam. Childn.

Adverse ReactionHypoglycemia, temporary visual disturbances, impaired liver function, allergic reactions, GI disturbances & impaired hematology function.

Drug InteractionInsulin, other oral antidiabetics, ACE inhibitor, allopurinol, anabolic steroids, sex hormones, chloramphenicol, coumarine derivat-ives, MAOIs, miconazole, paracetamol, pentoxy-fylline (high dose parenteral), phenylbutazone, azapropazone, oxyphenbutazone, probenecid, qui-nolones, salicylates, sulfinpyrazone, sulfonamides, tetracyclines, tritoqualine, trofosfamide, aceta-zolamide, barbiturates, corticosteroids, diazoxide, diuretic, epinephrine (adrenaline), other sym-pathomimetics, glucagon, laxatives, nicotinic acid (high dose), estrogen, progesteron, phenothiazine, rifampicin, thyroid hormones. H2-receptor antago-nist, clonidine, reserpine & alcohol.
